Crypt of the NecroDancer mod is the Mega Man rhythm game we’ve never had

Not ready for “Mega May” to end just yet? Capcom has done a good job making sure that every classic Mega Man game that it can release has been released through digital channels, but when it comes to original content, the fan scene is still the best place to look. Like this mod for example! The Mega Man series is eternally memorable for its amazing soundtracks, but we’ve sadly never gotten a rhythm game out of it. Luckily, we have CutmanMike to thank for modding the Blue Bomber, a host of his iconic enemies, an arsenal of special weapons, and several of his greatest musical hits into the indie hit Crypt of the NecroDancer. For those who have not played it,  Crypt of the NecroDancer  is a dungeon crawling roguelike game. Sure, we have enough of those these days, but the kicker which really helps this one stand out is that it must be played to a beat for maximum performance. Miss a beat, and your character will do less damage or miss an attack. The Mega Man mod replicates this idea

See Chris Pratt train his crew of raptors in a new ‘Jurassic World’ clip

Is there any piece of film music more recognizable than the theme from Jurassic Park , scored by John Williams, progenitor of many beloved numbers? That’s a rhetorical question, because there is not (OK, except for the Star Wars theme.) The wondrous, swelling music introduces us to a new featurette for Jurassic World , which has some big shoes to fill. While there has been a Jurassic Park 2 and Jurassic Park 3 , Jurassic World is the true successor to the first movie, which was a miraculous and groundbreaking work from Steven Spielberg when it came out in 1993. The new film picks up approximately 30 years after Jurassic Park , which ended with the park in disarray. Now, however, Jurassic World is a bustling theme park, with attractions, shows and one very large genetically modified dinosaur.  The new featurette provides some cool new footage, along with some commentary by executive producer Steven Spielberg, director Colin Trevorrow and Chis Pratt, who is part of the park’s on-s

Job listings point to plans to finally revamp iTunes

Apple’s Music app  is expected to get an overhaul this year as it absorbs Beats Music and expands into à la carte streaming. Now, it looks like iTunes could get a much-needed refresh as well after Apple posted a whole bunch of job listings seemingly focused on the desktop music app on Tuesday. Spotted by Apple Insider , the new positions focus on music search and discover, video, and big data, suggesting iTunes is getting a major update. The listings mainly focus on the iTunes store, along with iTunes Genius, iTunes Match and iTunes Radio, which all fall under the company’s Music Discovery Services Group umbrella. Clearly Apple has big plans for its music service. Unfortunately, we’re not expecting to see these changes implemented anytime soon. If Apple is just hiring people now, it could be months or even years before anything official is announced. It’s possible the company has already made some big changes internally, and simply needs more engineers and employees to help cross

Nintendo and Humble Bundle present eShop Indie sale

Well, here’s a company pairing I didn’t expect to see anytime soon. The Humble Bundle team has gone and cooked up a deal with none other than Nintendo to create the Humble Nindie Bundle. That’s right, pay what you want (as long as it’s more than a buck) for games playable on either the Wii U or Nintendo 3DS (or both) by way of the eShop. Sweet deal. Jonny Quest movie is being directed by Robert Rodriguez

See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo Jonny Quest , a show from the 1960s with a small but loyal following, is getting the live-action treatment, according to The Hollywood Reporter . Development is in the early stages, with no real timeline or actors involved. However, the report claims Robert Rodriguez ( Sin City ) is in line to direct, with Terry Rossio ( Pirates of the Caribbean ) set to help Rodriguez with writing a script. The original primetime cartoon was produced by Hanna-Barbera and introduced back in 1964. The classic show followed Jonny and his father as they went on adventures across the globe; other regulars included Hadji, Jonny’s best friend, a bodyguard named Roger Bannon, and Bandit, an adorable little dog. The show featured what any kid’s show about a young traveler would feature: robots, mummies, secret bases and more. Although it lasted for just one season, Jonny Quest was beloved by the public, and only went off air because it became too expensive to produce. A fe

Next ASUS ZenPad tablet shown in new leak

See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo ASUS looks set to kick off a new line of tablets dubbed the ZenPad, according to a pair of leaked renders obtained by  Ausdroid . The device is expected to arrive next week at Computex as part of a family of Android tablets with 4:3 aspect ratios. The ZenPad will reportedly ship in 7-inch and 8-inch variants with similar designs. The smaller model is expected to offer a 1024×600-pixel resolution, while the larger option is said to pack in a 2048×1536 resolution. Both tablets appear to sport microSD card slots for adding extra storage, front facing speakers, SIM card slots for data connectivity and Intel processors. The Taiwan-based company has designed some impressive tablets in the past, including the popular Nexus 7 . There was also the slightly confusing PadFone hybrid series, which never really took off here in America. Hopefully the ZenPad can build on the  Zen brand’s recent momentum to offer a winning tablet. 2K teasing Advent, sounds a whole lot like BioShock to fans

See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo The last few days, 2K has been tweeting and sharing links to a weird site. It’s AdventFuture.org, and it’s very obviously a new marketing campaign for a game they’ll likely reveal at E3. Hit the site and you’ll find promises of a Utopian city. “Building a brighter future together,” it reads. “The ADVENT Administration strives to create a world free from hunger, pain, sickness, and war. We believe in a global community of happy and comfortable citizens.” A little scrolling reveals more GIFs and images (like the big three you see above), and then the site really starts to deteriorate. Check out the sidewalks in the first image above, by the way. I count three and part of a fourth weird looking statue or robot. Enemies? Enforcers? Red text shows up. “The ADVENT is lying to you.” “Millions have gone missing…” and a link to sign up for 2K’s mailing list that reads “Sign up at your peril.” Right, a futuristic Utopian city that’s actually a Dystopia? YotaPhone 3 and YotaPhone 2c: Here’s what’s coming next from Yota

The YotaPhone 2 began its journey  to the U.S. last week, but the Russian company is already planning its future smartphones. We recently spoke to Yota’s Managing Director for the Americas, Matthew G. Kelly, who revealed plans for a YotaPhone 3 and a YotaPhone 2c in the not-too-distant future. The YotaPhone 3 will offer better specs, including a faster processor (likely from Qualcomm) a sharper display and a better E Ink screen in back. You can also expect more RAM (up from 2GB on the YotaPhone 2), a more powerful camera, and a thinner design overall. When the YotaPhone 3 actually launches may depend on its predecessor’s success, though it looks like the current YotaPhone is already a hit here in the U.S. “We have a next-generation product lined up,” Kelly told TechnoBuffalo.  “We can’t sell our next generation until we sell our current one. Carriers are interested, but a lot hinges on how well the YotaPhona 2 does.” Kelly also confirmed plans for a cheaper YotaPhone 2c, which he

Moto 360 now just $150

See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo The Moto 360 has seen its fair share of sales. Earlier this month it was priced at just $129 , though that offer only existed for a single day through Woot, and it has been on sale through Best Buy several times. Now Motorola is selling the Moto 360 for just $150, a full $100 off its original retail price. The sale runs through June 9, long after Google I/O and when we expect Motorola to introduce a new version of the wearable, but it’s still an awesome price for a great smartwatch. Keep in mind, however, that the starting price of $149 includes a leather watch strap and a watch face with a dark or light finish. You’ll still need to pay for upgrades such as the champagne watch face or a different band, but the total cost is still much cheaper. We think most folks should probably sit tight and see what kind of new model Motorola introduces , but you can hit the source if you’re on a budget and want to get in on one of the best Android Wear device

Resident Evil Zero is getting an HD remaster

Capcom will continue its journey back to Resident Evil ‘s roots early next year with the release of  Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster,  according to a report from  Famitsu . Earlier this year we saw the original  Resident Evil , as it was released on GameCube, get its own generally well-received remaster. Since the critical pounding Capcom got with  Resident Evil 6 , the company has been going for a more old-school approach to its survival horror property. Resident Evil Revelations 1 & 2  had a much more classic feel to them despite the  Resident Evil 4 style controls, and of course the  Resident Evil HD Remaster retained the camera angles and visual style of its 2002 release. Resident Evil Zero is a prequel to the original  Resident Evil , following one of its secondary characters, Rebecca Chambers. She teams up with a convict named Billy Coen for the first instance of single-player coop in the series.  Resident Evil Zero had us “zapping” between Rebecca and Billy similar to

Grand Theft Auto V mod adds Just Cause 2’s ridiculous grappling hook

WARNING: This is a Grand Theft Auto V video, meaning it might be NSFW. It’s video game science at its absolute best. Add a grappling hook to a video game, the game becomes exponentially more fun! Avalanche Studio got the grand idea a few years ago to not only add a grappling hook to a sandbox style video game but to build an entire game around one. Toss in an infinite supply of disposable parachutes, and Just Cause 2 was born. That fun will live on this fall when  Just Cause 3 is released , but in the meantime, those who own Grand Theft Auto V  can experience it a little earlier with a brand new mod. The latest in a masterpiece string of mods for the game’s PC release, this one by JulioNIB, perfectly mimics each of Just Cause 2’s grappling hook functions. Attach civilians to a car? No problem! Propel yourself to any attachable surface? Sure thing! Surf along the roof of cars? Absolutely! In fact, I’d say this mod actually improves on the mechanic because more than one line can

Apple invents multitouch “Fusion keyboard”

See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo Apple recently launched its new Force Touch technology, which is available on the latest MacBook and MacBook Pro computers , as well as the Apple Watch. That’s not the only new form of input it’s working on, however. A new patent awarded to the company describes a revamped keyboard that features multitouch keys. The patent, titled “Fusion keyboard” describes your standard array of keys placed on a typical keyboard. The keys can be depressed to type, as an ordinary mechanical keyboard already allows, but each key also features a multitouch surface. “A touch sensor can be included to detect touch events on the surface of the keys,” Apple explains in the patent’s abstract statement. “A keypad can also be included to detect a depression of the mechanical keys. One or more of the depressible mechanical keys can be multi-purpose keys capable of being depressed to multiple levels. The touch sensitive mechanical keyboard can receive key depression input, t

Konami’s working on a new Yu-Gi-Oh! game, and it isn’t coming to mobile

The German ratings board has let loose word of a brand new game from Konami. It’s a Yu-Gi-Oh! game called Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist . Now, I don’t mean to poo poo the news of a new Yu-Gi-Oh! for series fans. I never got into the show or games, but I totally get that it has its share of fans out there. I was one generation ahead of this one, so I just missed it. The reason I point out news of this new Yu-Gi-Oh! is because it’s releasing for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. That’s right, a Konami game that’s bound to release on non-mobile platforms. Konami has notoriously been blowing up its share in the gaming world lately. Their relationship with Hideo Kojima is done as soon as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain comes out, they’ve cancelled Silent Hills , pulled P.T. from the PlayStation Store and announced a brand new focus on the mobile platform . Yep, Konami is going mobile. Yet, here we are with word of a non-mobile game from the company. I wonder how Yu-Gi-Oh! fa

OnePlus will “shake up the industry” on June 1

OnePlus says it’s “time for a change” on June 1. The particulars aren’t made clear, but we all know what we want to see: a new phone. A gorgeous, affordable, fast, new phone. Whether we’ll get that remains to be seen. The rumors, after all, have been all over the map. Whatever it is the company has planned will “shake up the tech industry,” according to a cryptic Tweet. The small Chinese startup already made waves with the OnePlus One, a device that eventually became our favorite smartphone from last year . If the company can hit the same notes of power, affordability and design, there’s a good chance OnePlus will repeat last year’s feat. We’re always looking for ways to shake up the tech industry. And we think it’s time for change. Find out more June 1. http://pic.twitter.com/odrsSko6dB — OnePlus (@oneplus) May 26, 2015 The Tweet is accompanied by a OnePlus One that’s being erased (or drawn) right before our very eyes. That could indicate the company is ready to unveil what’s

Need for Speed reboot uses the same engine as Star Wars: Battlefront

See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo In continuation with EA’s grand plan to unify its library under just two graphics engines, the company has employed the most recent version of the Frostbite Engine to power the recently announced Need for Speed reboot . This is the same build used to power the highly anticipated and beautiful shooter  Star Wars: Battlefront . Confirmation comes from Frostbite’s Technical Director Johan Andersson. Our next @NeedForSpeed by @GhostGamesEA running on the same version of @FrostbiteEngine as Battlefront! https://t.co/u1BIeB6d9S — Johan Andersson (@repi) May 21, 2015 Sounds like an instant win. Frostbite is particularly great at rendering shiny metal objects, and that’s exactly what the fast cars of Need for Speed are. Fast, shiny metal on the rock hard concrete. The official Twitter account also chipped in some information saying it isn’t a direct sequel to Need for Speed Underground 2 , but it does share a lot in common with those games. @Nor

The Witcher 3 gets two free DLC updates this week

I’m not even sure I’ve seen a tenth of what The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has to offer in terms of quests and characters, and I’m here writing about new DLC set to release this week. CD Projekt RED has announced two free pieces of DLC bound for their monster detective open world RPG. That’s right, I said free. Neither of them are massive bits of content, but fans who can’t get enough of Geralt and his adventures should be excited. The word comes from CD Projekt RED on Facebook. Here’s what they said about the two pieces of DLC. CONTRACT: MISSING MINERS – Miners from a small Skellige village are disappearing. Investigate and find out what’s happening! ALTERNATIVE LOOK FOR YENNEFER – Check out this entirely new look for the mighty sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg! Sure. both bits are sort of ho-hum. Still, free is free, and if you’ve somehow seen everything The Witcher 3 has to offer (you crazy person), this is here for you to enjoy. See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo Source : Fa

OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 beta 4 released

Apple on Tuesday released the fourth beta version of OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 . It’s the very latest version of Apple’s operating system, though the company hasn’t spent much time detailing what we can expect from it. Instead, most of the changelogs have simply said that it includes performance enhancements, bug fixes, enhanced support for Arabic, and focuses on Photos and Migration. Photos, however, was the main change in Apple’s latest public release, OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 , when the app replaced Apple’s Aperture software, so any changes in OS X 10.10.4 are more than likely just small tweaks. In its WWDC 2015 invite, Apple promised to discuss the “future of iOS and OS X,” so that’s where we expect to hear more on the future of OS X. If you’re a developer, however, you should be able to update to OS X 10.10.5 beta 4 now. Source : iClarified from TechnoBuffalo http://ift.tt/1F8HEhk

Mad Max game’s new trailer is about a man and his car

Mad Max isn’t based on the new movie,  Mad Max: Fury Road even a bit. They’re separate projects. Despite that, they start out very similarly… Our protagonist, Max Rockatansky, is chased down by a gang of War Boys before being caught and beaten, his car taken away. Instead of being captured, though, he’s left for dead. Big mistake. Max meets up with the mechanic Chumbucket who wants to build him a new car, called the Magnum Opus, the car we’ll spend the game customizing in the quest to take revenge on the warlord Scrotus. Yes, Scrotus. So many of these games try to put us in one moral quandary after another, but with Max there’s no question, just one goal: survive at all costs. If I wasn’t already hyped enough for the title just on it being a Mad Max game,  Fury Road has my excitement through the roof. Let’s be clear, though: this is  not   Fury Road . Miller’s newest addition to his series was a better movie than anyone would’ve guessed ahead of release, and the game is not goin

iOS 9 to feature Force Touch and some much-needed tweaks

iOS 9 leaks are coming faster than ever. Just a couple of weeks before  Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference , a new report claims to reveal even more about the big iOS update. According to 9to5Mac  editor Mark Gurman, iOS 9 will add Force Touch support for upcoming iPhones and iPads. Apple is apparently already working with third-party developers to incorporate the new feature, which is also headed to in-house software like Maps. However, Force Touch is likely tied to the iPhone 6s, due to hardware constraints that are required to offer the tech, meaning it may not be announced until later this year when the device is unveiled. In the meantime, the iOS 9 update could also bring some smaller improvements. iMessage will allegedly get read receipts for group chats, along with the ability to specify who can see them in one-on-one conversations. The preinstalled QuickType keyboard will also reportedly get some nice tweaks, including an improved Shift key. Finally, Apple Pay may exp

iPhone 6s camera rumors get a boost in new report

Earlier this month we learned that Apple might boost the iPhone 6s camera up to a 12-megapixels lens. Now a new report out of Japan bolsters those rumors while revealing that Sony will supply the new camera modules. Sony already ships the cameras for Apple’s current iPhones, so it makes sense that the two companies would team up again. The report suggests that Apple won’t feature  dual rear camera setup  that surfaced recently, though that rumor seemed pretty far fetched. Additionally, the new lens could include an RGBW sensor, for better low light photos, and a faster focus. Finally, the report backs up recent rumors that the iPhone 6s will pack 2GB of RAM and at least 32GB of storage. Apple seems pretty content with its current RAM and storage options, though it’s possible the company is finally ready to swap out some specs for the iPhone 6s, especially if iOS 9 requires additional horsepower. The report also suggests that Apple actually wanted to include the 12-megapixel sensor

Microsoft reduces game streaming bandwidth by more than 80%

Researchers between both Duke University and Microsoft’s own team have created a tool that dramatically reduces the bandwidth required to stream games. The tech is called Kahawai (Hawaiian for “stream,” of course), and it splits the rendering work between your device and the server instead of   just the server. Duke and Microsoft indicate that this shared work tool requires one-sixth the amount of bandwidth that typical streaming systems use. That’s an 80 percent drop. The video above shows a before and after effect on  Doom 3 . Notice the steadiness and the details in textures, specifically. This collaborative rendering tool even worked in an offline state for users. That means those gaming with unstable connections will enjoy uninterrupted play as they flicker off and online, albeit with less fidelity than they’d have over a consistent connection. Kahawai will likely spread beyond gaming if all plays out well. Duke Computer Scientist and Study Co-Author Landon Cox explains. “G

Periscope hits Android as battle with Meerkat continues

See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo The battle between Meerkat and Periscope continues. The former had a small advantage over Twitter’s Periscope when it launched on Android first , but that gap closed Tuesday, when Twitter released Periscope for Android. If you’re unfamiliar with either app, they’re relatively simple in their goal: allow users to stream live feeds of whatever they’re doing to a group of followers. Meerkat, which lost access to Twitter’s tools when the social network launched its competitor, recently cuddled up with Facebook to expand its reach. The Android version of Periscope, which until now had been limited to iOS devices, provides notifications when a specific user goes live, when a followed user shares a broadcast, when someone follows you and more. Like the iOS client, you’ll also be able to view chats from viewers and hearts that flutter across the screen as those viewers express their delight with the live content. You can grab Periscope for Android by follo

Yoshi’s Woolly World trailer shows off some adorable amiibo compatibility

When Yoshi’s Woolly World launches later this year, it will arrive with some very nifty (and adorable) amiibo compatibility. The Yoshi amiibo, including the yarn based ones that will release alongside the game, will let you play with something called a Double Yoshi in the game. What about Nintendo’s other amiibo? It’s ridiculous. It’s also amazing. The video above shows three amiibo patterns in action, and the tweet from Nintendo’s UK branch has a still of Yoshi all yarned up like Mario, including a fancy mustache. Mad Max meets Mario Kart is just bloody brilliant

How is this for a clever mash-up?  sundbergkr ‘s Mario Kart: Fury Road parody trailer mashes up the worlds of Mad Max and Mario Kart to epic results in this wonderful parody of the film’s trailer. What’s really special about this mash-up is that it isn’t entirely overdone. The Mario references are brief, subtle, and appear just long enough for you to appreciate them before waiting eagerly for the next one. Without a doubt the giant Chomp is the most laugh out loud moment, but the creators also slip in some perfectly timed and inappropriate voice clips during the violent action. I still haven’t seen Mad Max: Fury Road , due it not coming out in Japan until June 20, but I had purposely avoided the trailers to not get any spoilers. Now, thanks to Mario, June 20 can’t come fast enough! Source : Via : Destructoid from TechnoBuffalo http://ift.tt/1AvRv58

Cortana coming to iOS and Android

See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo Microsoft on Tuesday announced that its smart voice assistant Cortana will soon be available for iOS and Android, marking the service’s first launch on a platform other than Windows. Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore explained how Windows 10 will connect to Android and iOS devices in a short video clip published Tuesday. In it, he discusses a “Phone Companion for Windows 10″ application that will prompt you to install the right software in Windows 10 for managing your music and photos on your mobile device. Then he noted that, one of the main features of Windows 10 is Cortana, so Microsoft will release a standalone app for Android and iOS. Any reminders you set from your PC will then come through on your Android or iOS device, and you’ll be able to use Cortana in the same fashion that you’re used to in Windows 10, too. Cortana will be available for iOS and Android in late June, which suggests that Windows 10 might launch around that time, too. Source :

Android M: Here’s what Google wants to change

Google I/O is just a few days away, and we’re expecting the company to spend a good chunk of its keynote presentation revealing plans for Android M . Luckily, it looks like we’re getting an early taste of the new operating system now, courtesy of  Android Police . The site reports that Android M will focus on battery life and RAM usage in an effort to improve overall performance. Specifically, Google may discuss new features designed to use less power, such as reducing the number of location check-ins performed. It makes sense that the next Android update will focus on fine tuning the operating system, since Google’s Material Design UI is still pretty fresh. Android Police also notes that, similar to last year with Android L, Android M will be available as a developer preview in the near future. The official release is reportedly set for August, though we’ll likely get plenty of hands-on time with Google’s new software before then. Based on other recent rumors, Android M may als

Limited edition Iron Man Galaxy S6 Edge is official

See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo Samsung has been teasing a limited edition Iron Man version of the Galaxy S6 Edge , and it recently revealed everything we need to know about the special device. As you’ll see in the gallery above, it’s decked out in Iron Man red and gold, and even ships with a special themed wireless charging puck. All of the hardware remains the same as what you’ll find from the standard model, and this version ships with 64GB of storage. You’ll note the  Avengers  software theme, which should also be available to everyone through the theme store, though it doesn’t look as polished as the rest of the phone does, with its sharp gold accents and deep red hue. Collectors will also appreciate the special box it ships in, which includes all of the essentials but also features the gold Iron Man helmet. The limited edition Iron Man Galaxy S6 Edge goes on sale in South Korea on Wednesday, followed by launches in Hong Kong and China next month. There’s no word if it will

New Nexus phones from LG and Huawei detailed in fresh leak

Rumor has it Google will release two new Nexus phones later this year, unveiling a  smaller LG-made smartphone and a phablet from Huawei . Now, a new report from Android Police  claims to reveal the details and specs of both handsets. First up is the LG device, code named “Angler” to follow Google’s trend of aquatic animal names . The smartphone will reportedly pack a 5.2-inch display, a 2700mAh battery and a Snapdragon 808 chip. Some of those specs are apparently still up for debate, but overall it sounds like a pretty nice upgrade for the two-year old Nexus 5. Meanwhile, Huawei’s “Bullhead” is expected to be a much larger device with a 5.7-inch display. It will also reportedly offer a Snapdragon 810 processor and a 3500mAh battery. It sounds like a close follow-up to the Nexus 6, though with a slightly smaller footprint. Android Police notes that both Nexus devices should launch at around the same time this fall, likely in October. As for Google’s tablet lineup, we may be stuck

Dissidia Final Fantasy – 13 minutes of location test footage

Square Enix’s ridiculous fighting game,  Dissidia Final Fantasy , is about to wrap up its location test after being available for a pair of weekends in May, and reception seems to be positive so far. Just to show off what a limited number of Japanese fans have experienced over the short period of availability, Square Enix has uploaded nearly 13 minutes of gameplay footage and a whole new batch of screenshots. Only six characters starred in the location test, extending to the Hero of Light from Final Fantasy , the Onion Knight from Final Fantasy III , Terra from Final Fantasy VI , Cloud from Final Fantasy VII , Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII , and a Miqo’te mage from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn . It’s not a tall order to pick a favorite from that line-up for me… Terra Bradford all the way. The locations included only two stages as well, Final Fantasy VII’s Midgar and a generic overworld map. The full release is expected later this fall, and it will star 14 total characters

Jony Ive promoted to Chief Design Officer at Apple

Apple has announced that Jony Ive, who has long been the company’s Senior Vice President of Design, has been promoted to the newly-created role of Chief Design Officer. The new position, which Ive will take up on June 1, will broaden Ive’s design duties at Apple and give him the opportunity to work on projects like Apple Campus 2 and its iconic retail stores. However, Ive’s managerial duties will be passed on. Richard Howarth, who has been a part of the iPhone design team since the original model was in development, becomes Apple’s new Vice President of Industrial Design. Alan Dye, who was part of the design team that overhauled iOS 7, becomes the new Vice President of User Interface Design. The changes, which were announced with an exclusive interview in  The Telegraph  by Stephen Fry, friend of Apple and Ive, will give Ive more time to travel and oversee a broader range of Apple design projects. Fry writes: Jony’s signature will be everywhere. The oak chairs, the desks which pe

It has the same 5.2-inch display with 1080p resolution, the same 20.7-megapixel camera, and a very similar look that comes in the same color options as its predecessor — as well as a new aqua green option. However, the Xperia Z3+ is slightly slimmer than the original Z3 at 6.9mm (vs. 7.3mm), which means a slightly smaller 2,930mAh battery — and while it is still water-resistant, Sony has been able to do away with the fiddly flap that covered its micro-USB port. The Xperia Z3+ also boasts the latest Snapdragon 810 processor with Adreno 430 graphics, 3GB of RAM, and a microSD card slot. It ships with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. If

Smart screen protector adds a back button to your iPhone 6 and 6 Plus

iPhone adopters switching from Android may struggle to adapt to having no back button, but thanks to a new smart screen protector, you no longer have to. The Halo Back uses clever circuitry to add an invisible back button to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Halo Back not only makes the iPhone easier to adjust to for long-time Android users, but it also makes the device easier to use one-handed — particularly if you have the larger iPhone 6 Plus. What’s more, it looks just like a regular screen protector, and it’s just as strong. Unlike other protectors, however, Halo Back has a “smart layer” that contains some special wiring, linking its invisible back button to the top left corner of the display. When you tap its button, the electrical charge from your finger is transferred to the back button found at the top of most iOS apps. You can see the Halo Back in action in the video below. Halo Back is a Kickstarter project right now, and it needs your backing. Just $17 will get you a pr

LG G4 buyers in the U.S. get an extra battery and a 32GB microSD card free

See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo Can’t decide between the LG G4 and the Galaxy S6? They’re two of the hottest Android devices on the market right now, but LG is hoping it can secure your vote with some useful freebies. For a limited time, the company is giving G4 buyers an extra battery and a 32GB microSD card. “The LG G4 gives you the power to stay connected with life’s important moments,” LG says. “With an expandable micro SD slot and removable 3,000mAh battery, you’ll get the usage time you need and the extra space to keep all your memories at your fingertips.” The battery comes in its own charging cradle, so you can keep it topped up even while it’s out of your phone. That means you can plug both devices in at night, and you’ll have two fully-charged batteries to keep you going throughout the day. According to LG, the battery and microSD card are worth around $105 together, but if you buy a G4 in the U.S. before June 21, you’ll get them both absolutely free. You’ll need to pu

Instagram begins sending ‘Highlights’ emails with photos you may have missed

Instagram has begun sending out “Highlights” emails that contain a selection of the best photos users may have missed from the people they are following. The emails hope to promote the photo sharing service and encourage users to continue opening the Instagram app. No one really likes their inbox to be filled with promotional emails and spam, but email is still an incredibly effective marketing tool. Twitter recently began using it to send out “best of” roundups to its users, and now Instagram is trialing something similar. Highlights emails contain a number of photos from the people you follow, helping you stay on top of the things you might have missed. Instagram hopes that you’ll want to see more and you’ll open up its app — then perhaps share some photos of your own. The emails will surely lure occasional users who may not check Instagram all the time back to the service. As a casual Instagram user myself, I know it would work on me; I think Instagram is a terrific platform, b

Android’s new Google Photos app leaks out early

See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo Google is expected to announce a new photo service at Google I/O later this week, and thanks to this leak, we get to take a look at its new Android app early. It comes with a whole bunch of new features and a revamped user interface, plus a new editing tool called Photos Assistant. An early copy of the new Photos app was obtained by  Android Police,  which has published a whole bunch of screenshots that show the app in action. Like a lot of Google apps, it comes with a quick how-to guide that appears when you open the app for the first time. The guide walks you through a number of the app’s key features, including search, sharing, and auto-upload. Some of them you’ll already be familiar with, because they’re already present in Google’s existing Photos app for Android. For instance, search lets you find photos with specific people, animals, or objects; while auto-upload continues to send your photos and videos to the cloud automatically to keep them

Logitech MX Master review: I never want to stop using this

See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo I don’t know where we went wrong. Somewhere between the invasion of touchscreens and hyper-advanced trackpads, the humble mouse was forgotten. Well, forgotten by me, anyway. Luckily, the market hasn’t completely fallen by the wayside, and, in fact, it’s alive and well, highlighted beautifully by Logitech’s excellent new MX Master. I haven’t been this excited about a mouse in, well, ever. I’ve never been a mouse person. Or, anyway, I’ve never really seen the value in spending lots of money for something that made browsing the Internet sliiiiiiightly better. I was always satisfied with whatever was around, whether itt was a wired mouse I got in a $20 keyboard combo, or one for travel that was so small it made my hand cramp; I’ve never been picky about what I used. Click, scroll, click, scroll—all the same to me. What a terrible, naive, short-sighted outlook that was. A few years into my stint here at TechnoBuffalo, I finally started to realize that

What do you have installed on your PS Vita?

My PS Vita has become my main gaming platform as of late. I love diving into old PlayStation favorites in the palm of my hands, exploring the generation of excellent PSP games that I missed, taking down some of the best JRPGs on the modern market, and blasting through the best indie hits on the go. It’s the perfect device I need to get through my commutes to the Japanese countryside. South Park predicted that the PSP was in fact a device made by God, but Trey Parker and Matt Stone were just a generation shy of the truth. One area that Sony definitely dropped the ball with the Vita, though, is the memory cards. The biggest ones cost almost half the price of the console itself, and that’s only if you want the ones that can actually hold a decent sized collection of games. I’m thinking of upgrading to a 64GB one after my wedding this summer. I gotta watch those needless expenses these days, so for the time being, I can only work with the limited space of 32GB. The horror, I know. I

iPhone 7 concept design copies Samsung’s edgiest device

See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo Samsung gets a lot of flak for copying Apple , but what if it was the other way around? A new concept design for the iPhone 7 takes some clear inspiration from the Galaxy S6 Edge , and the results are pretty awesome. Created by Hasan Kaymak, these renders imagine an iPhone 7 Edge with no side bezels. Notifications even show up scrolling along the side of the device, though it still looks like one big display. The screen also doesn’t slope down quite as drastically as it does on the Galaxy S6 Edge. This iPhone 7 design features a unibody aluminum frame with a few small design tweaks. The antenna bands on the back of the device look more like the iPhone 5s than the iPhone 6. The speakers also get tweaked to allow for an even thinner form. Overall it’s actually a pretty reasonable design for the iPhone 7, especially compared to some of the more far out concepts we’ve already seen. We’d love if Apple could slim down its bezels, at least a bit, though
