Sony will launch the Xperia Z4 as the Xperia Z3+ globally next month

Sony today announced that its new Xperia Z4 is going on sale outside of Japan for the first time next month, only it won’t be known as the Xperia Z4. Instead, it will be named the Xperia Z3+, but its physical design and specifications remain unchanged.

The Xperia Z3+ is essentially a slightly improved Xperia Z3. It has the same 5.2-inch display with 1080p resolution, the same 20.7-megapixel camera, and a very similar look that comes in the same color options as its predecessor — as well as a new aqua green option.

However, the Xperia Z3+ is slightly slimmer than the original Z3 at 6.9mm (vs. 7.3mm), which means a slightly smaller 2,930mAh battery — and while it is still water-resistant, Sony has been able to do away with the fiddly flap that covered its micro-USB port.

The Xperia Z3+ also boasts the latest Snapdragon 810 processor with Adreno 430 graphics, 3GB of RAM, and a microSD card slot. It ships with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

If you already have an 8-month-old Xperia Z3, the Z3+ isn’t going to look like much of an upgrade — not even for hardcore Sony fans.

That could make it difficult for the Xperia Z3+ to compete against the rest of 2015’s flagships — particularly the Galaxy S6 and the LG G4, which boast sharper Quad HD displays. But the Xperia Z3+ does have the upper-hand when it comes to water-resistance.

Sony hasn’t confirmed how much the Xperia Z3+ will cost yet, but it will be available globally in June.

Tesla announced a new update coming to its Model S car this year which should make it impossible to ever drive too far away from a charging station, at least on purpose. The company also confirmed plans to add auto-steering features later this year. Ahead of the recent event, CEO Elon Musk promised to kill “range anxiety” once and for all, describing the concern some Tesla drivers feel over whether they’ll be able to reach a charging station in time. Comcast Xfinity Share app lets you stream video to a friend’s TV

Apple Maps may finally get public transit directions with iOS 9

A new report from  9to5Mac  says Apple Maps will finally get public transit directions along with a few other new features in iOS 9. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard similar claims , but hopefully this time the rumors are true. According to the generally reliable Mark Gurman, Apple “hopes” to include subway, bus and train directions with iOS 9. The update may add a new trip planning feature and a special public transit view as well. The company is also hoping to debut indoor mapping this year. Apple is already using small iBeacon-equipped robots to map indoor spaces, though it’s unclear if the new feature will be ready in time. Apple Maps has gotten progressively better over the past few years, but it’s still missing a key feature for anyone who lives in a city or relies on public transportation.
