Supergirl trailer introduces the world to TV’s newest superhero

We’re in the middle of a renaissance of comic book films and it seems like comic book television shows are just getting started. The newest member of DC’s stable, Supergirl, was recently ordered up for a season by CBS, and now we get our first look at it with a 6 minute summary of what looks to be the pilot.

Supergirl comes from Berlanti Productions – you might remember that name from The CW’s Arrow and The Flash.

Just about every channel has a comic book show airing or in the works right now, though NBC’s Constantine is on the way out, Fox’s Gotham is struggling, and many are worried about their take on the Vertigo property Lucifer.

CW’s shows are the most obviously comic-booky and they’ve also been the best-received by fans as well. With Greg Berlanti at the helm of Supergirl as well, I actually have some reason to get excited about this show. If CBS can leave it alone, it could be a lot of fun based on this short clip. I’ll admit it has a bit of a Black Widow: Age of Me feel to it at the beginning, but for a character like Supergirl, that kind of works as a starting point. Melissa Benoist seems to fill both of her character’s identities pretty well, too.

The show seems to pick up on some of what we saw in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, interestingly, but it doesn’t follow slavishly. The character is treated as an alien like Superman was, and many people are suspicious of her. She also mentions that the emblem on her suit isn’t an “S” but her family’s coat of arms. However, the show is bright and has an optimistic feel to it.

There’s a lot to be excited about here, from the producer and costume design to the effects we’ve seen so far. I just hope they stop referring to her cousin – the show can’t actually say Superman) every five minutes after the first episode, because that’s going to get old fast.

We can look forward to seeing more of Supergirl, most likely, at San Diego Comic-Con, but definitely when it starts airing Monday nights at 8 p.m. on CBS in November.

Exec behind “Next Big Thing” campaign has departed Samsung

Samsung Mobile CMO, Todd Pendleton, has reportedly departed the company, according to CNET . Pendleton is credited with creating Samsung’s famous “Next Big Thing” campaign, which took aim at the company’s rivals while highlighting the benefits of its own mobile lineup. The ads were smart, terse, and ultimately helped raise the awareness of Samsung’s brand as a major smartphone maker here in the U.S. It’s unclear why Pendleton left, but it’s being reported that Samsung executives became dissatisfied with the campaign’s recent success, even going so far as auditing the mobile division’s Dallas headquarters. It seems you can only use the Next Big Thing tagline so many times; the commercials have taken a decidedly different turn over the past few months, focusing on design, functionality and features rather than bashing Samsung competitors. The timing, I suppose, seems appropriate given that Samsung has just unveiled two new flagships, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Samsung is clearly

You can now control PowerPoint for iPhone with your Apple Watch

Want to master the CMO role?  Join us for GrowthBeat Summit on June 1-2 in Boston , where we'll discuss how to merge creativity with technology to drive growth. Space is limited and we're limiting attendance to CMOs and top marketing execs. Request your personal invitation here ! Microsoft today updated its PowerPoint for iOS app with a rather bizarre update: remote Apple Watch support. You can download the new version now directly from Apple’s App Store . We say this addition is “bizarre” because, well, why would anyone want to control PowerPoint on their iPhone from their Apple Watch? This PowerPoint app also works on the iPad , and we would argue it makes more sense to control a presentation on your tablet from your wrist than one that is on your smartphone. Here is the changelog so you can try to make sense of it yourself: PowerPoint Remote for Apple Watch: control your slide show on iPhone with a beautifully simple app. Start your slide show and easily navigate to

Trine 3 will hit Steam Early Access next week

The Trine games are really cool. They’re a special blend of puzzle platforming and action, and Frozenbyte has done a great job creating and supporting a fan base for its efforts. Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power will be available on Steam Early Access next week. It’s going to sell for $19.99, and you can find the Early Access specific trailer at the head of this post. What’s especially interesting about Trine 3 is that it marks the franchise’s first transition to 3D gameplay. Frozenbyte indicates on the Early Access page that its decision to release the game to the community early stems out of its need to make the 3D segments feel right. Trine 3 is our first move towards 3D-gameplay in the Trine series, so we wanted to get in touch with our player-base in an early enough phase to collect feedback on the new gameplay features, so we can tweak those into the right direction. Early Access can hopefully provide us with lots of players willing to do this. See full gallery on TechnoBuff
