GungHo Entertainment of America apparently has the results of its recent customer survey, and Grandia II is the lucky winner scoring the first HD remaster out of it. The report comes to us through GameSpot where the company claims that the game was given “enthusiastic” support.
Grandia II was originally released on the Dreamcast in 2000 to quite a large amount of fanfare, and it arguably remains the second most popular RPG on the console after Skies of Arcadia. I played the PlayStation 2 version in 2002 way back when, and I wasn’t too impressed. However, the Grandia franchise is also home to that classic style of JRPG storytelling that only gets better with age.
Maybe I’ll have to dedicate some time to this cult classic whenever GungHo gets around to publishing it. President of GungHo America Jun Iwasaki chimed in on the response.
“With the rise of digital downloads, it is especially important that classic games continue to remain available to play in some form. Grandia II was chosen for a PC re-release because it represents both a hallmark of the Grandia series and an example of how great JRPGs can be.”
GungHo Entertainment has been in cahoots with Grandia II developer Game Arts since 2004, and it also questioned about many of the other company’s popular hits. Aside from Grandia, Game Arts is also widely respected for the Lunar games, and the two PlayStation remakes would make for perfect PSOne Classic releases.
Let’s hope that they received the same level of “enthusiastic” support for future announcements.
