Apple Car rumors return as Apple settles suit with battery maker

Earlier this year, Apple was sued by electric car battery-maker A123 Systems for poaching its engineers. Now, the two companies are ready to settle out of court, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The specific terms are still unknown, but the news suggests Apple would rather deal with the issue in private. It’s unclear what the trial might have revealed if it had played out. Even so, the news has re-sparked rumors that the Cupertino company is hard at work on an electric vehicle of its own.

According to A123, Apple may have even convinced its CTO Mujeeb Ijaz to help poach other employees; Ijaz’s job specifically focused on developing large lithium ion batteries for Formula 1 racing cars. The lawsuit alleged Apple was also targeting employees at LG, Samsung, Panasonic and Toshiba. Separate reports have suggested Cupertino is going after Tesla engineers as well, though CEO Elon Musk recently denied any significant loss of talent for the electric carmaker.

For now, the news that Apple and A123 have settled will likely only boost the rumors of a potential Apple Car. If details of the final agreement leak out it could reveal a bit more about Cupertino’s plans, though we likely won’t see an actual vehicle from the company until at least 2020.

How is this for a clever mash-up? sundbergkr ‘s Mario Kart: Fury Road parody trailer mashes up the worlds of Mad Max and Mario Kart to epic results in this wonderful parody of the film’s trailer. What’s really special about this mash-up is that it isn’t entirely overdone. The Mario references are brief, subtle, and appear just long enough for you to appreciate them before waiting eagerly for the next one. Without a doubt the giant Chomp is the most laugh out loud moment, but the creators also slip in some perfectly timed and inappropriate voice clips during the violent action. I still haven’t seen Mad Max: Fury Road , due it not coming out in Japan until June 20, but I had purposely avoided the trailers to not get any spoilers.
