Resident Evil 5′s Steam edition can’t do splitscreen

Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition recently made the jump to Steam. Just like the zombies of the series, though, Resident Evil 5 is missing something despite looking a lot like what it used to be.

Resident Evil remains a splitscreen experience for many players and Capcom knows that, seeing as how Resident Evil: Revelations 2 only featured splitscreen at launch with the multiplayer getting added in at a later date. For some reason, though, Capcom decided that not to be the case with the Steam edition of Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition. When modders went into the code to find the leftover code they’d used before to make it happen, instead they found notes from the developer about the code being ripped out in the port process.

Just like with Revelations 2, Capcom’s response wasn’t to apologize for removing a feature important to some fans, but to apologize for leaving the feature in the feature list (though Capcom later resolved that).

While Capcom feels the process is too difficult to be manageable, saying that “the game’s logic wasn’t designed with multiple controller devices in mind,” and that if you plug in two controllers, “RE5 has no way of figuring out which gamepad controls which character.”

A modder by the name of Blade disagreed, however, responding to the spokeperson’s post and explaining that “all the code is fully functional and worked flawlessly for the Games for Windows Live version.” The modders didn’t add anything, he said, but simply enabled it. The modders had to disable keyboard controls to make it work, but had no problem getting the game to distinguish between two separate controllers.

Resident Evil 5 is, of course, a six year old game by this point. It’s frustrating for fans that the game is missing features in what is supposed to be the definitive edition, but it’s also easy to see why Capcom wasn’t terribly interested in putting anymore time or money than absolutely necessary into the port. It’s unfortunate that this feature is missing but, unlike Revelations 2, there isn’t a brand new game to support here, so it’s unlikely that splitscreen will return to Resident Evil 5 unless modders can figure it out somehow.

¿Alguna vez has visto un ornitorrinco? Es probablemente el animal más extraño que jamás encuentres. Es un mamífero de sangre caliente, sin embargo, pone huevos. Está cubierto con la piel, pero se divierte un pico de pato. Y sus pies palmeados también parecen má…

Gears of War remaster screenshots from footage leak

See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo The only thing Black Tusk and Microsoft have left to do on the Gears of War remaster is actually announce it. We’ve seen it hinted at, denied, and rated. Now we have some footage accidentally leaked onto the Xbox DVR site, likely by a developer who forgot to disable the automatic upload. This isn’t gameplay footage per se – the enemy is standing still in the clips while the player attacks them. It’s likely test footage for some of the gore physics or something like that. But it’s definitely footage taken in-game.The two images above were pulled from a NeoGAF thread on the leak comparing the screenshot of the new clips to one from the original Gears. Microsoft is likely scrambling to take the footage down, but currently the thread, linked to in the source for this story, has links to the videos. If you decide to click through and watch the clips, it’s important to note that they were filmed using the Xbox Game DVR and were filmed three months ago, before t…

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launch trailer take 2 – Go Your Own Way

You can call it another lonely day. Haven’t we been here once before? CD Projekt RED believes that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is far too amazing for just one launch trailer, so it has decided to create yet another just to drive home the fact that you need to play this game. The new “Go Your Way” launch trailer features more in-engine graphics instead of impressive pre-rendered CG, and its focus this time around is not our big, bad hero Geralt but rather the Princess Ciri. Don’t be fooled by her puppy dog eyes and adorable freckles. This girl will kill you in a flash! The trailer tells her tale of how she wandered from home, and tells of how Geralt sets out to find her.The relationship between these two is not the only star of the trailer either. Geralt’s fantasy world is full of real life horrors that extend beyond mere monsters. Slaughter, torture, executions, dangerous seductions. The trailer bares all that you will find in this horrible yet beautiful place, giving you a taste of the s…
