Whether you love or hate the company, it’s hard to deny that Nintendo is almost always willing to wade out into risky and new waters with its hardware. While Sony and Microsoft seem happy with taking their hardware and simply improving upon it with each iteration, Nintendo throws something new at gamers.
It doesn’t always work; however, when it does, the company typically revolutionizes the industry.
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata spoke with Japanese outlet Nikkei briefly about the future for Nintendo’s hardware. It looks like it’ll be taking that boom or bust attitude with the NX as well. Nintendo isn’t interested in simply expanding on old hardware.
“However, if you only expand upon existing hardware, it’s dull…
…In some shape or form, we’re always thinking about how we want to surprise players as well as our desire to change each person’s video gaming life.”
Nintendo wants to surprise us. I hope it does, and I hope it’s in a fashion that’s better executed both in design and marketing than the Wii U.
We’ll have more on the NX as it comes. For now, what do you think they’ll do?
