The ZenWatch is one of our favorite Android Wear devices so far, but you may want to hold off on buying one if you haven’t already. It turns out ASUS is gearing up to release a second-generation smartwatch with significantly better battery life in the near future.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, ASUS CEO Jerry Shen confirmed plans to launch the ZenWatch 2 by early Q3 2015. The device will make its official debut next month at the Computex expo in Taipei, which takes place from June 2-6. It should be in stores sometime this summer.
ASUS has apparently put a ton of effort into improving battery life for the new watch. Shen claims the ZenWatch 2 will last just under four days on a single charge, though he initially hoped to get that up to a full week. Additionally, the smartwatch will offer “many improvements in user experience.”
Despite it’s impressive battery life and fashionable design, Shen doesn’t expect the new ZenWatch to be a huge seller this year. He noted that the company still doesn’t see wearables as a major source of revenue, predicting fewer than a million units sold in 2015.
If the ZenWatch can really last up to four days on a single charge without adding to much bulk it could quickly become our go-to Android Wear device.
