Technology has taken us to the moon, given us smartphones, and, best of all, pizza apps. The latter technological advancement might be man’s best achievement, not because of its convenience, but because of its ability to literally save lives.
A Florida woman who was being held hostage by her abusive boyfriend allegedly used the Pizza Hut smartphone app to outsmart her captor and surreptitiously call for help.
According to WFLA, the woman had been arguing with her boyfriend when he threatened her life with a large knife. Her phone was then taken, but not before she was given permission to order a pizza. Hostages and kidnappers gotta eat. Thinking of a way to escape, the woman cleverly added a little message to her order, but it wasn’t a call for extra toppings or napkins.
“911hostage help!” and “Please help. Get 911 to me,” the message read. That’s when the local Pizza Hut, who said the woman was a regular, called police.
When officers responded, they found the woman and her children in the house unharmed, and eventually took her boyfriend into custody—all because of her quick thinking. No word on what happened to the pizza, but one would hope the woman was treated to a complimentary pie following the frightening ordeal.
It just goes to show that having a good pizza app on your phone couldn’t hurt.
