Whoa man, this is my four-year-old 80s fantasy finally becoming a reality! Nintendo, the maker of my favorite video games, has teamed up with Universal, one of Hollywood’s most iconic studios, to bring its characters to life at Universal Studios theme parks!
Is there going to be a Rad Racer ride based on The Wizard? I really hope so, because that Power Glove is just so bad.
“Nintendo and Universal Parks & Resorts today announced plans to bring the world of Nintendo to life at Universal theme parks – creating spectacular, dedicated experiences based on Nintendo’s wildly popular games, characters and worlds,” the press release states.
“The agreement brings two icons of entertainment together and represents a significant partnership for Nintendo as it expands the reach and popularity of its characters and intellectual property.
“Now, for the first time, those stories and characters will be brought to life in entirely new ways – only at Universal theme parks.”
Nintendo promised last year to license its popular characters out for an extra stream of revenue, but many had taken the news with a bit of offense because of how protective it usually is of its brands. I hope those fears have been put to rest, because the company has so far delivered nothing but solid gold from these collaborations. Anybody remember that sweet Mercedes DLC in Mario Kart 8?
No doubt, Los Angeles and Florida will be benefiting from this new partnership, but I’m more excited to see how Universal Studios Japan in Osaka handles the rush. It already takes four hours to get in line for Harry Potter! Who knows how long Mario is going to take?
No date has been set yet, so plan your vacations before the blitz of kids and fanboys clog up the queues.
