Looks like Apple may release a new 4-inch iPhone this year after all. The company appears to have leaked what appears to be an iPhone 5c with Touch ID on its own Apple Store website. Could this be the rumored iPhone 6c?
The device is pictured among a gallery of images showing off the company’s new iPhone Lightning Dock. We only see it from the front, which reveals an updated Home button without the classic white square. It looks identical to the Touch ID button included in the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Of course, it’s possible this is an honest mistake. The image in question looks more like a render than an actual photo, so someone at Apple HQ may have simply messed up. Still, it’s hard not to jump to the conclusion that we’re staring at a totally new iPhone.
Earlier this year, a series of leaks had us convinced Apple would upgrade the iPhone 5c before the end of 2015. The so-called iPhone 6c was expected to feature the same plastic design with a fingerprint reader and some upgraded specs. More recently, a few reports suggested the device wouldn’t arrive until 2016 at the earliest. Now we don’t know what to think.
If Apple does update the iPhone 5c the new device will likely arrive during an official event later this year. We’ll be on the lookout for any more news though, in case the company decides to drop the device without a big public announcement.
