A new, unspoken rule has come along with the new generation of game consoles: Before you can release your new sequel, you have to remaster the original. It’s not like remasters are new to this generation by any means, but it seems to be somewhat of an agreement by all the various publishers at this point. Tomb Raider was one of the first, Halo’s hard to miss, and now word is starting to leak out of a Dishonored remaster.
There’s been rumor of a Gears of War update, though fans have been begging for that one while Black Tusk Studios, the new caretaker of the Gears of War license, continues to deny it.
Now Gears of War: Ultimate Edition has appeared on the Brazilian Advisory Rating Board site, alongside that Dishonored leak.
Remastering Gears seems like a foregone conclusion. Not doing so is just leaving money on the table considering that remasters fans weren’t begging for have done quite well. What we don’t know yet is just how ultimate the Ultimate Edition will be. Will it be a remaster of just the first game, of the whole Marcus Fenix trilogy, or will Gears of War: Judgment even be included?
It’s likely we’ll find out on June 15 at E3 when Microsoft lays their first and second party cards out on the table.
