Mobile phone owners in the U.K. can already get some great SIM-only service plans that are incredibly affordable, but U.S. company FreedomPop is coming to shake things up a bit with its own, which is completely free for casual users.
FreedomPop has been offering free wireless service in the U.S. since 2011, and it currently boasts hundreds of thousands of customers. Now it is expanding to the U.K., and for many, it’s going to mean they’ll never have to pay for calls, texts, and data again.
FreedomPop’s free plan offers 200 minutes, 200 texts, and 200MB of data — plus free international calls to over 60 countries — which will likely be ample for casual mobile phone users who use their device sparingly. But for those who need more, there will be several paid add-ons that will allow you to increase those limits affordably.
FreedomPop will also offer a ‘Jetsetter’ service, which will offer free data you can use worldwide, starting in Europe. Users will get a 100MB allowance, but again, that can be increased with paid add-ons.
FreedomPop will use Three’s existing infrastructure and its service will officially launch in the U.K. this summer — but you can sign up for a chance to beta test it before then via the source link below.
