T-Mobile and BlackBerry haven’t been the best of friends recently, at least not after T-Mobile CEO John Legere and BlackBerry CEO John Chen butted heads over “business strategies.” As such, T-Mobile hasn’t sold BlackBerry smartphones direct to consumers since sometime last year, but that’s about to change next week.
BlackBerry on Wednesday announced that T-Mobile will officially sell the BlackBerry Classic on May 13. The new device marks a fresh “partnership” that was also revealed on Wednesday morning. “Bringing BlackBerry into our device line-up now also stokes Un-carrier 9.0, which is all about bringing the Un-carrier revolution to business,” Legere said.
The BlackBerry Classic has been available since late last year, when we brought you our first impressions with the smartphone. It offers a similar design to BlackBerry’s older devices, such as the BlackBerry Bold, though with updated specs. T-Mobile will sell the Classic online beginning May 13 and in stores beginning May 15. It will be available for $0 down with payments of $18.33 for 24 months, or full price for $439.92.
