Samsung hasn’t just streamlined its TouchWiz software for the new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge; it has also made it much more flexible. Users will find that there are a smaller number of pre-installed apps on their new device, and most of those that are bundled can be removed or disabled.
Screenshots uploaded to the XDA Developers forum ahead of the Galaxy S6′s launch next month show that users can uninstall Microsoft apps like OneDrive, OneNote, and Skype, and Google apps like YouTube, Gmail, Google+, and more.
And it doesn’t stop there; TouchWiz now allows the removal of Samsung’s own apps, too — so if you don’t like the stock Calculator or you don’t use S Health or S Voice, you can swap them for third-party alternatives or just delete them to free up space.
If you decide later that you want one of those apps back, you can obviously find those from Google and Microsoft in the Play Store, while Samsung’s apps can be redownloaded from its own Galaxy Apps marketplace.
This move proves Samsung really has loosened its grip on TouchWiz quite significantly for its latest flagships, and that’s great news for anyone thinking about getting one. TouchWiz has received a lot of criticism over the years — most of which is pretty deserved — but it’s clear Samsung is finally looking to change that.
