The countdown to Tokyo Game Show 2015 has begun with four months remaining. A lot could and is going to happen in that time! E3, Gamescom, the release of Batman: Arkham Knight and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and, oh yeah, my wedding. Can’t forget about that one.
As with previous years, the show has created a colorful mascot to appear on walls and other advertising spaces. 2015’s lady was created with the idea of “flying” and “floating,” freely being allowed to play games as you see fit. Be it on a controller or a smartphone, illustrated not so subtly by the character.
Tokyo Game Show 2015 has a lot to prove this year with last year’s show being such a huge hit. Japan finally pulled out all the wares in 2014, proving that it has come around to regularly cranking out excellent software on HD consoles. Will the country’s best and brightest capitalize on the forward momentum, or are they just showing off for a year or two before returning to handhelds and smartphones again? Was 2014 the real deal or just a fluke?
Lots of questions to be asked by fans of Japanese games, but I think we’re in for another solid showing from Japan minus Konami’s looming presence. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will have been published by then, meaning that it will have nothing else to show besides its line-up of smartphone games.
Looking forward to another great year at Tokyo Game Show. I can only imagine what we are going to see, but I am throwing in a bet for Dragon Quest XI.
