Film Fondue: Is Daniel Craig in Star Wars: The Force Awakens?

Happy Mad Max: Fury Road week, you guys. Every other big movie slated to come out this summer should be worried. Not only have the early reviews been positive, but overwhelmingly so. Rotten Tomatoes currently has an aggregate score of 98-percent, with almost 200 reviews counted. Yeah, I’m excited. And you should be, too.

We hit a lot of the bigger entertainment news and rumors this week, highlighted by the (still unconfirmed) news that Asa Butterfield will be the next Spider-Man. We’re not sure when Marvel will officially unveiled the 18-year-old as the friendly neighborhood web slinger, but it should be any day now. Any day indeed.

I’m having a hard time concentrating knowing Fury Road is waiting for me, ready to take me on a beautiful thrill-ride across a scorched desert. You can catch up on all the entertainment news your heart can handle below, along with some other rumors and news we didn’t get a chance to check out. Bebop has been cast in TMNT 2? Bebop has been cast in TMNT 2.

Oh, and how about that Minions trailer? Utterly delightful.

Bebop, and set photos from TMNT 2

Gary Anthony Williams has allegedly been cast as the mutant pig known as Bebop, a kind of punk bully who did his dirty work with the help of Rocksteady. So, I guess we know who one of the villains are in TMNT. We also know that a character from the first live-action TMNT is returning, but who? You should recognize her in the photos above. Maz Kanata first look

This is what we know: Lupita Nyong’o is playing a major role in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We also know that she’s been doing motion capture as part of that role. We don’t, however, actually know what her character looks like. That photo above, shared by Indie Revolver, purports to be our first look. How the character gets involved with Finn and Rey remains to be seen. [IndieRevolver]

Awesome Deadpool photo shows the anti-hero in action

We’ve seen plenty of photos from the Deadpool set, but nothing like this. Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds, shared a still from the movie, complete with a witty and completely vulgar caption. “Stuck the landing. With my mouth.” OK then. [RyanReynolds]

Even more Suicide Squad set photos

The faces should be familiar to you by now. But in case you hadn’t yet seen what Margot Robbie looks like as Harley Quinn, well, here you go. Several more photos from the Suicide Squad set have hit the Internet, giving us a pretty solid look at most of the crew. [ComicBookMovie]

Another photo from X-Men: Apocalypse

Bryan Singer has been teasing photos for his upcoming movie, X-Men: Apocalypse, and he shared yet another a few days ago. This one is captioned with, “The past catches up.” What past? And why do they have bows and arrows? Seems like a certain mutant with the power to control metal is being hunted. [BryanSinger]

Kate Beckinsale for Underworld 5

Kate Beckinsale is reportedly going to reprise her role as Selene in the ass-kicking Underworld series. Wow, the film is already on its fifth movie?! Beckinsale has already appeared in three of the Underworld movies, and it seems her demon-hunting isn’t over yet. No word on when a release is being targeted. [TheHollywoodReporter]

Jurassic World promo video

A new promo video for Jurassic World has been released, and it’s a little different than your usual fare of roaring dinosaurs. Instead, the video is like an inspirational science video, in which the “scientists” from the movie talk about how they built dinosaurs. Take a gander to learn more of the film’s backstory. Daniel Craig in Star Wars: The Force Awakens?

Apparently Daniel Craig is playing a Stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but you didn’t hear that from Simon Pegg. While promoting another film, Pegg accidentally let slip that Craig has a roll of some kind as a Stormtrooper. It doesn’t appear this is a major role for Craig. Instead, it sounds like he’s just getting the chance to play out his fanboy fantasy. [WashingtonPost]

Exec behind “Next Big Thing” campaign has departed Samsung

Samsung Mobile CMO, Todd Pendleton, has reportedly departed the company, according to CNET . Pendleton is credited with creating Samsung’s famous “Next Big Thing” campaign, which took aim at the company’s rivals while highlighting the benefits of its own mobile lineup. The ads were smart, terse, and ultimately helped raise the awareness of Samsung’s brand as a major smartphone maker here in the U.S. It’s unclear why Pendleton left, but it’s being reported that Samsung executives became dissatisfied with the campaign’s recent success, even going so far as auditing the mobile division’s Dallas headquarters. It seems you can only use the Next Big Thing tagline so many times; the commercials have taken a decidedly different turn over the past few months, focusing on design, functionality and features rather than bashing Samsung competitors. The timing, I suppose, seems appropriate given that Samsung has just unveiled two new flagships, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Samsung is clearly ...

Mad Max meets Mario Kart is just bloody brilliant

How is this for a clever mash-up?  sundbergkr ‘s Mario Kart: Fury Road parody trailer mashes up the worlds of Mad Max and Mario Kart to epic results in this wonderful parody of the film’s trailer. What’s really special about this mash-up is that it isn’t entirely overdone. The Mario references are brief, subtle, and appear just long enough for you to appreciate them before waiting eagerly for the next one. Without a doubt the giant Chomp is the most laugh out loud moment, but the creators also slip in some perfectly timed and inappropriate voice clips during the violent action. I still haven’t seen Mad Max: Fury Road , due it not coming out in Japan until June 20, but I had purposely avoided the trailers to not get any spoilers. Now, thanks to Mario, June 20 can’t come fast enough! Source : Via : Destructoid from TechnoBuffalo http://ift.tt/1AvRv58

The Sega Saturn hit shelves 20 years ago today

20 years ago today, one of the weirdest consoles we’ve seen hit the market: The Sega Saturn. Looking at the image above, if you haven’t seen the Saturn before, it might not look that weird at a glance – disc tray, six buttons on the controller, black plastic. Nothing too bizarre there. It’s how Sega got to the Saturn that’s strange. Sega was riding high on the wild success of the Sega Genesis at the time. Sega of America had taken the Mega Drive, renamed Genesis in the United States, from a tiny also-ran to an equal player against the Super Nintendo. Sega was, of course, looking for the next big thing. Sega of America’s president Tom Kalinske courted Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Olaf Olafsson first, almost reaching a deal to cooperate on a new console. That fell through, just as Sony’s negotiations with Nintendo had before that. When Kalinkse brought the idea to the board at Sega of Japan, they weren’t interested in working with the guys who make Walkman stereos (kids, ask your...
