Apple TV: Don’t own one yet? Go get it at Target

Apple officially dropped the price of the Apple TV down to $69 during its Spring Forward event in March. That’s a huge hint that it’s probably about to refresh the device with the long anticipated new version of the Apple TV, which is expected to have its own app store and maybe even a streaming TV service . Don’t own the current one yet? You might want to head to Target. The retailer is currently selling the Apple TV for $69 with a $10 Target gift card. The way I see it, that means you can buy the Apple TV and about 8 candy bars in the checkout aisle, all for the same price you’d be paying for an Apple TV anywhere else — but with the bonus of a bunch of snacks for your impending HBO binge. You’re probably pretty safe with this model for at least a few months, too. Rumor has it the new Apple TV might not be announced until the annual Worldwide Developer’s Conference (WWDC) in June, so you have plenty of time to enjoy the box before regifting it to someone once the new model hits. Dragon Quest Heroes 2 in development for PS3, PS4, and PS Vita

No point in waiting, I suppose. Square Enix is obviously very pleased with how Dragon Quest Heroes performed on the Japanese market, and it has announced that Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is currently in development. The sequel will be available for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. No word on the story or characters yet, but I think its safe to assume that the game will be modeled after the Dynasty Warriors’ musou style of action again. What’s most interesting about this though is that Square Enix is taking a totally different path than that of Dragon Quest Heroes’ sister-series, Hyrule Warriors . Nintendo has let its Musou-style action game slow burn itself to success over the course of the whole year, but Square Enix can’t seem to wait to get a sequel out and on the market. Sales figures of the main package probably had something to do with that. Sounds exciting even though we are still waiting for the first game to make it to the States. Square Enix says it will be here ...

A Play-Doh movie might be coming to a theater near you

We’re reaching peak cute. Whether that’s a good or bad thing remains to be seen. Following the runaway success of The LEGO Movie , it appears another childhood favorite will get the Hollywood treatment. Deadline reports 20th Century Fox is in talks with Hasbro for a live-action film based on Play-Doh. You know, that weird mushy modeling material you ate (but were told not to) as a young child. The key here is that all parties involved are simply “in talks,” so it’s unlikely we’ll see a Play-Doh film anytime soon. But here’s the most significant tidbit: Paul Feig, who is directing the all-female Ghostbusters movie , is being tapped to direct. Suddenly a film based around Play-Doh doesn’t sound all that bad. Remember, a full-length LEGO movie didn’t sound all that appealing when it was officially announced, but we all saw how that turned out. There’s potential here to replicate that success, so it’s no surprise to hear executives exploring the idea; The LEGO Movie managed to gross ove...

Apple Watch tour guide videos help familiarize potential customers

Before Apple Watch pre-orders open up on April 10 , familiarize with everything the device can do in Apple’s new “Guided Tour” series. Smartwatches are still very unfamiliar to 99-percent of consumers, and because this is Apple’s first foray into the wearable market, it’s making sure customers know exactly how the device works, and what it can do. These videos break the Apple Watch’s features down in the simplest way possible. Right now four different videos are available to watch, with the first one just a general overview of the Apple Watch’s capabilities. Think of it as a primer for the overall experience, which Apple does go more in-depth with in a series of other tours, starting off with messages; there’s also a video about watch faces and digital touch. In total, there are 11 different videos, covering topics such as phone calls, Siri, Maps, Apple Pay and more, though all but four are listed as coming soon. If you’ve been closely following the Apple Watch’s progress since it wa...

The first iPad launched 5 years ago today, see how much it has changed

The first iPad hit the market five years ago today, and it changed everything. Apple wasn’t the first company to launch a tablet, others had been down that road, but it was the first company to create a product with mass appeal. By 2012, just about two years later, Apple controlled nearly 60 percent of the tablet market, despite new competition from Android OEMs. As of this past June, Apple has sold more than 200 million iPads. In an effort to celebrate the launch, we thought it might be fun to take another look at the original iPad, in addition to the latest model, the iPad Air 2, to see just how far the iPad has come in five years. See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo The original iPad with Wi-Fi launched on April 3, 2010, shortly before the 3G model hit a few weeks later on April 30. It packed just 256MB of RAM, a Cortex A8 processor clocked at 1GHz, a 9.7-inch 1024 x 768-pixel display, didn’t have any cameras to speak of and was a half of an inch thick. The iPad Air 2, by compariso...

Apple Watch pre-orders to go live promptly at 12:01 a.m. PDT on April 10

See full gallery on TechnoBuffalo What are you doing on April 10? It’s a Friday, which means you should be at work or school, or, if you’re really lucky, getting ready for a quick weekend getaway. For Apple fans, it’ll be a particularly special day, because that’s when Apple Watch pre-orders go live. If you’re willing to forgo a few hours of sleep, you’ll have the opportunity to snag Apple’s first smartwatch at 12:01 a.m. Pacific (3:01 a.m. EDT). Not too late for folks here on the west coast, but it’ll be a long night for anyone who decides to stay up on the east. Pre-orders should be accepted right up until the device’s release later in the month, though that’ll obviously depend on how many units are available. My inclination is that everything will sell out soon after pre-orders are made available. You should know all about the Apple Watch by now . Will this be the device that finally takes smartwatches mainstream? Maybe. Apple is projecting a lot of sales this year, though whethe...
