We spotted the Xperia Z4 Compact last month in a leaked catalogue from Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo. Now a new report claims to reveal when the rumored device will be unveiled.
According to Russian site Mobiletelefon, DoCoMo plans to unveil its entire summer lineup later this month on May 13. That apparently includes the Xperia Z4 Compact along with new devices from Sharp and Fujitsu. Like the flagship Z4, it’s unclear if this scaled-down version will be available outside of Japan.
Sony’s managed to release a string of “Compact” phones that offer flagship specs in smallish frames. The Xperia Z3 Compact was a pretty great device, and we’re expecting the same attention to detail for this new smartphone.
The real question is whether the company will put much effort into promoting the Xperia Z4 Compact. Sony barely put on a show for its flagship Xperia Z4 when it was unveiled last month, and it looks like DoCoMo could do most of the work in unveiling this compact variant.
We’re still holding out hope that Sony’s smartphone division has something big coming later this year, but until then we’re pretty excited to see what its next small smartphone has to offer.
