Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire edge towards 10 million units

Nintendo has shared the worldwide sales figures from its biggest games over the last few years. Surprisingly, a Pokemon game does not top the list, but it does come pretty close to the reigning champion, Mario Kart 7. Check out the list below.

Nintendo 3DS software sales:

  • Mario Kart 7 – 11.70 million
  • Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire – 9.94 million
  • New Super Mario Bros. 2 – 9.16 million
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf – 8.94 million
  • Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS – 6.75 million
  • Tomodachi Life – 4.15 million
  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D – 2.03 million
  • Kirby Triple Deluxe – 1.78 million

Wii U software sales:

  • Mario Kart 8 – 5.11 million
  • Nintendo Land – 4.68 million
  • Super Mario 3D World – 4.10 million
  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U – 3.65 million

Aside from Pokemon Black and White 2, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire remain the only pair of the dual-release main games that have yet to break that 10 million unit mark. It doesn’t look that far away either at just 600,000 units until it reaches that goal.

Surprisingly, Pokemon X and Y are not listed, otherwise Mario Kart 7 would not be sitting on top. The pair has accumulated over 13 million units to date.

Another feel-good standout on the list is The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D. When we last checked in with this retro title, it was struggling to hit the 1 million mark in the United States. However, around the world, the game is a 2 million plus seller in just a few months time, confirming that there is still large contingency of gamers who like to kick it old-school throughout the world. Retro gaming is a force to be reckoned with.

Wii U software sales are solid enough and show a decent attachment rate to the system. I wish more gamers would catch on, and hopefully Splatoon and The Legend of Zelda will boost its image.

Nintendo recently found itself back in the black after a few years of struggling, and it’s nice to see things looking up for the company.

Samsung Mobile CMO, Todd Pendleton, has reportedly departed the company, according to CNET . Pendleton is credited with creating Samsung’s famous “Next Big Thing” campaign, which took aim at the company’s rivals while highlighting the benefits of its own mobile lineup. Pirate Bay co-founder won’t be playing NES in his jail cell

Fredrik Neij, a co-founder of The Pirate Bay, the massive torrent site, was arrested last year for copyright infringement. That’s okay, though. He knew how he was going to spend his free time. Really, it’s not too different from what most gamers might as for: Nintendo. All day, every day. Unfortunately for Neij, prison authorities had some issues with the request. It’s not that video games are against the rules in Swedish prisons, though. That’s actually not too uncommon. To get a piece of hardware into the prison, though, it needs to be opened up so that it can be checked for contraband items (let’s just assume Nintendo-themed shivs) hidden inside. With a DVD player or something like that, it’s not too tough, but the NES uses special security screws to prevent people from tampering with the system or getting at the hardware for piracy purposes.
