In the most recent trailer for Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden, Bandai Namco welcomes the most recent film into the franchise’s lore by adding Goku and Vegeta’s SSGSS levels and Frieza’s new golden skin.
The first of these three brawls proves how Goku is still the baddest dude in the universe by taking out Frieza, Cell, and Kid Buu without the help of his friends. Trunks and Android 18 follow up in the second fight with a cameo by Vegeta’s SSGSS transformation, who has been relegated to assist character status.
The third and final fight starts off with Goku battling Captain Ginyu, but before you know it, everyone from Bulma to Tien Shinhan and even the Golden Frieza show up for the fun.
Is this was Dragon Ball Z has come to? Akira Toriyama was once a God himself at character design, but his successors ran out of goofy forms for Super Saiyans to turn into or any other original characters. What, did they just throw up their hands in defeat and give Goku blue hair? The show’s Super Saiyan crutch has been devolved into a fighting game color swap of Mortal Kombat proportions!
It’s a bit meta that both of these two new color swaps have been added to an actual fighting game. A fighting game that looks like a lot of fun despite its snail’s pace framerate, by the way.
Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden will be released for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan on June 11. No confirmation of a North American release just yet.
