Fingerprint scanners are typically reserved for high-end smartphones and tablets right now, but it seems Huawei could be looking to change that. A leaked photo that allegedly reveals the company’s next budget smartphone early shows a fingerprint scanner on its back.
The new device doesn’t yet have a name, but according to MyDrivers, which was first to publish the leaked picture, the handset will be priced at just 999 yuan in China, which is around $160. It will also support all network bands, allowing it to be used on any carrier in any country.
This “global” connectivity and the fingerprint scanner are two features that we can expect from all future Huawei devices — no matter how much they cost — according to Wu Zhou, the company’s vice president.
Unfortunately, there are no specifications to go along with this photo yet, so we’ll have to wait until Huawei makes the handset official to find out what else we get for $160. The company has a press event scheduled for June 2, so the device could make its official debut then.
