The iPhone 5c may opt for plastic instead of metal, but apparently it’s still powerful enough to deflect a shotgun blast. That’s what happened to one man in England this week when his smartphone ended up saving his life.
British network iTV reports than an unnamed 25-year old survived a shotgun attack from a 19-year old assailant thanks to his trusty iPhone 5c. The device, which looks pretty destroyed, took most of the damage. However, the victim still sustained some injuries to his body, but managed to make it to an emergency center nearby.
The attacker, Ryan Duggan—pictured in the gallery above— apparently pulled out his gun after he was confronted by the victim for turning off the water supply for a block of apartments. He was ruled guilty of attempted murder and possession of a firearm. He’ll be sentenced later this summer in July.
Meanwhile, the victim is still in the hospital and recovering. A local detective told iTV that if it wasn’t for the iPhone “he would undoubtedly have died.”
“Despite making good progress he still requires treatment for his injuries—including further operations and rehabilitation,” the detective added. “The nightmare is far from over.”
