Valve will now allow developers with games on Steam to ban players from their titles on a game-by-game basis, the company announced last week.
Separate from Valve Anti-Cheat, this policy will allow developers to run their own anti-cheat monitoring and take action on anything they find. If a developer finds a cheater, they then notify Valve. Valve will ban the user specifically from the online services for that game.
The developer will hold sole power to apply (and likely remove) the ban – Valve simply takes actions on their orders. Previously, only Valve was able to take action on cheaters, and that is on a service-wide basis.
More granular options like these will hopefully allow developers to improve the more problematic aspects of their communities that Valve’s system-wide solutions can’t address.
