Ex-Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi has been turning up in the news left and right these days, and it probably has something to do with the announcement of his indie game. First, he teased a website for his game on the anniversary of one of his most popular hits, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, and now he’s been spotted talking about his absolute greatest game, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
In a special sit down segment of Double Fine Productions’ “Devs Play,” Igarashi explains many secrets behind the game’s development including plenty of anecdotes and features that were not able to make it into the final build. Both he and former Capcom producer Ben Judd discuss the inner workings of the “metroidvania” genre, and explain what makes the great ones stand out.
Be sure to check out the whole video. It is two hours of fascinating behind-the-scene stories of one of gaming’s most endearing and popular titles of all time. I wonder if Igarashi will answer that eternal question. “What is a man?” because “A miserable little pile of secrets!” doesn’t seem to fly with a lot of fans.
