Netflix is launching its own Christmas special this year with A Very Murray Christmas starring the one and only Bill Murray.
As a child of the 1970s, celebrities getting their own Christmas specials was a given. The practice died off in the 1980s and it has very much become a thing of the past at this point. But when you can get Bill Murray involved, and you’re a fledgling network, why not give it a shot.
Netflix is touting A Very Murray Christmas as “an homage to the classic variety show” and will focus on Murray worrying that no one will show up to the taping due to a snowstorm. The special will be directed by Murray’s partner for Lost in Translation, Sofia Coppola and will have appearances by George Clooney, Paul Shaffer, Amy Poehler, Julie White, Dimitri Dimitrov, Michael Cera, Chris Rock, David Johansen, Maya Rudolph, Jason Schwartzman, Jerry Lewis, Christian Mazzalai, Laurent Mazzalai, Frederic Moulin, Rashida Jones, Miley Cyrus and more to be announced later.
No release date has been set beyond “December,” but we would imagine it will be towards the earlier part of the month so you can watch it numerous times before Dec. 25.
