Twitch broadcasters were met with some very unwelcome news on Monday. The streaming service said that accounts have been accessed without authorization—in other words, hacked—prompting a site-wide password reset. We reset ours, and I suggest you do the same for yours, too.
We are writing to let you know that there may have been unauthorized access to some Twitch user information.
For your protection, we have expired passwords and stream keys and have disconnected accounts from Twitter and YouTube. As a result, you will be prompted to create a new password the next time you attempt to log into your Twitch account.
We also recommend that you change your password at any website where you use the same or similar password. We will communicate directly with affected users with additional details.
Ouch. It’s unclear how deep the rabbit hole goes, but assume your information has been swiped. According to emails going around to affected users, via The Next Web, information like email addresses, IPs, phone numbers and birth dates may have been accessed. Not good, not good at all.
Twitch is currently up and operational, so it’s mostly business as usual. But all is not well under the tutelage of Amazon.
